Back to work in the office three days a week? Apple's plan blocked again by outbreak

In April of this year, after many delays and failures, Apple officially began requiring employees to return to the office for face-to-face work. Apple’s plan calls for the gradual implementation of face-to-face work, starting with one day a week and increasing to three days a week.

By May, Apple suspended the rollout of its program as cases of pneumonia increased again. Now, Bloomberg reports that Apple is unlikely to implement the three-day-a-week requirement anytime soon.

Apple employees began returning to face-to-face work on April 11 after two years of remote work as a result of the outbreak. Apple’s initial requirement to work in the office one day a week was increased to two days by May 4.

The next step is for employees to return to the office three days a week starting May 23, specifically requiring face-to-face work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In his latest newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman explains that he was told that the view within Apple is that “Apple’s plan to return to the office may not be fully implemented any time soon.”

That means employees will continue to work face-to-face two days a week and work from home three days a week.
