Apple is developing an “extreme sports” version of Apple Watch

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an “extreme sports” version of the Apple Watch that will have a larger screen and metal case to better withstand damage.

The new device, aimed at athletes, hikers and others who experience more extreme conditions while wearing the Apple Watch, will be Apple’s largest watch device to date. At nearly 2 inches diagonally, the display is larger than the 1.9-inch screen size of both the current Apple Watch Series 7 and the planned Apple Watch Series 8.

It will have about 7 percent more screen real estate than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7, with a display resolution of 410×502 pixels. Gurman speculated that Apple may use the additional display area to provide more health indicators on the Apple Watch dial at once.

It will include improved impact resistance and protection in the form of a metal material that is stronger than aluminum. It will include a more shatter-resistant screen and will have a larger battery to accommodate longer workouts.
