Ming-Chi Kuo’s new report: A16 processor will be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro series
1 min readAccording to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to dedicate its latest A16 processor to the Pro model in the iPhone 14 lineup, and this diversification strategy will become an annual trend for the iPhone lineup going forward.
Earlier this year, Kuo said that only the iPhone 14 Pro models would come with the A16 chip, and that the standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models would still come with the A15 chip.
Kuo now says the chip shortage isn’t a factor guiding Apple’s thinking, and that the plan to build newer, faster chips specifically for the Pro iPhone models is part of a long-term diversification strategy that will apply to next year’s iPhone 15 lineup and iPhones beyond 2023.
In his Medium blog, Kuo again claimed that the latest A16 chip will be exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro model, “significantly increasing the iPhone’s high-end model in second half of 2022 to 55%-60% of shipments (compared to 40%-50% in the past), and high-end component suppliers for the rear camera will also benefit.”
