How to identify a hickey
3 min readIf you see a weird bruise on someone’s neck, you may have questions. Hickeys are small scars caused by sucking on the skin, which are very obvious in appearance. Hickeys are usually the result of a lover’s involuntary intimacy in private. If you don’t know whether the bruise in front of you is caused by a kiss or an injury, read through this article to find a way to identify it.
Method 1: size
Most of the hickeys are about the size of the puckered lips. Although the hickeys vary in size, most of them are relatively small, not exceeding 2.5 cm in width. If the size of the bruise is much larger than the size of a normal lip, it may be an ordinary scar.
Watch out for clusters of hickeys. If you find a large area of bruises on someone’s body, it may be formed by several different hickeys together.
Method 2: shape
Hickeys are usually oval or round. The marks left by the pursed lips sucking on the skin should be easy to recognize, but similar scars can be left after being burned by an electric curling iron or straight iron, so it cannot be generalized.
If the mark on the skin is a perfect circle with nothing in the middle, you may see a rash called ringworm, not a hickey.
Method 3: color
Most hickeys are red and purple. Hickey is a kind of scar, so it usually takes the color of a bruise. Red, crimson, black-red, purple, or deep purple hickeys are more common. The color of the hickey is caused by the ruptured blood vessels under the skin leaking to the surface.
Ordinary scars will change color as they heal, but hickeys will maintain the same color as they heal.
If you want to cover up the hickey, green concealer is the best choice. It can neutralize red and purple and easily fade the hickey.
Method 4: location
Check for scars on the neck or shoulders. Most hickeys appear on the exposed skin above the collarbone. Ordinary accidents are difficult to leave scars on these parts, so kissing is often the culprit.
In order to hide the hickey, people usually wear a scarf or a high-necked shirt. If someone you know suddenly covers his neck tightly with a lot of ornaments and looks suspicious, then he must be hiding something.
Method 5: activities
Hickeys are the product of people’s intimate moments. If you know someone is dating recently, the scar on her neck is probably a sign of love. If this person has just finished hockey training recently, you may just see normal scars.
Hickeys do not necessarily occur during sex—kissing and intimacy can also leave this mark on the neck. If your teenage child has a hickey on his neck when he returns home, don’t pretend that she stole the forbidden fruit.
Method 6: timeline
Most hickeys can last about two weeks. Hickey is a kind of scar, and it takes time to fade. The size of the hickey determines the time it takes for it to completely disappear from the skin. Generally speaking, it takes 2 weeks. Over time, you will notice that the hickey becomes lighter and smaller.
If the hickey shows no signs of fading within two weeks, there must be something wrong. In order to find out the reason, you’d better go to the hospital for an examination.
Method 7: temperature
Low temperature can accelerate the disappearance of the hickey. If you notice that your friend or child uses ice packs frequently recently, they may want to make the hickey disappear as soon as possible. However, the effect of ice compress is limited, and the applied hickey may still be obvious.
Another method is to put the spoon in the refrigerator and freeze it for a while, then take it out and stick it on the hickey to let it fade faster. If you find that most of the spoons at home have gone into the refrigerator, you should be able to guess what happened.
Method 8: age
Hickeys usually appear between young people. This does not mean that adults will not “stamp” their lovers, but adults are more cautious and better at hiding. Therefore, you are more likely to find a hickey on a teenager than an elderly grandmother.
