Music recognition service Shazam updated to sync songs with iOS

Music recognition service Shazam has updated its iPhone and iPad apps so that songs identified using the music recognition feature in iOS can now be synced with the Shazam app.

The app is designed to listen to the music being played and provide the song name and artist for identification. Apple’s iPhones and iPads have built-in Shazam functionality, which can be accessed through the Music Recognition button in Control Center, regardless of whether the app is installed, and by asking Siri to identify the song being played.

Previously, it was thought that syncing between the Music Recognition feature in Control Center and the Shazam app was limited to devices running the iOS 16 developer beta, but Shazam has now rolled out the feature to current apps running iOS 15.

This is a new feature in this update, as Shazam’s history can now be synced across devices. Previously, a long press on the Music Recognition button in Control Center only showed the song recognition history for the current device.

After years of Siri integration, Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and starting with iOS 14.2, Apple’s mobile devices have had system-level song recognition.
