New beta version of iOS 16: lock screen support for full-screen music player
1 min readApple today released the third beta of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 to developers, as well as the first public beta of iOS and iPadOS 16.
Both updates add a new lock screen feature – a full-screen music player. Since iOS 10, the music player on the lock screen has been used as a small, card-based player that takes up a small portion of the screen with a miniature version of the album screen.
In the latest iOS 16 beta, the album screen is displayed front and center, with a separate, smaller music player below it for controlling playback. The album screen determines the background color of the lock screen, but if you tap at the bottom of the display, you can return to the standard wallpaper and minimize the player.
Apple showed off the new full-screen music player at WWDC, but it wasn’t available in the iOS 16 beta until today.
