FSF: Microsoft Windows 11 deprives users of freedom and digital autonomy
1 min readNews on October 11: The Free Software Foundation (FSF) posted an update blog post on its official website that Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 system deprived users of freedom and digital autonomy.
Greg Farough, the current chairman of the FSF, emphasized in a blog post that Microsoft has enhanced its control of devices through Microsoft Account. Now a Windows device obeys Microsoft more than it obeys users, and it is no longer appropriate to call it a personal computer.
Greg Farough said that Windows 11 now requires a Microsoft account to connect to each user account, allowing Microsoft to associate user behavior and personal identity, even those who think there is nothing to hide should be vigilant. It is no longer appropriate to call a Windows machine a personal computer, because it obeys Microsoft more than it obeys users. It is ironic that Microsoft calls the program that checks whether it is compatible with Windows 11 PC Health Check (computer health check), because a “healthy” computer should respect users’ wishes rather than deliberately restrict users.
