Amazon Wal Mart and Target become the most downloaded apps during the holiday

According to a report by the research firm Digital Turbine, as consumers increasingly shop through online channels, more than half (55%) of mobile shoppers downloaded at least one new shopping app before the holiday.

This report conducted an online survey of 1,000 Americans from October to November 2021. The report shows that the most downloaded shopping apps are Amazon, Walmart and Target. However, the report also lists other apps such as Nike, Etsy, Poshmark and Fetch Rewards as “climbers,” and consumers’ willingness to install these apps is significantly higher than average.

In addition, Sam’s Club and eBay’s apps are well-known among consumers, but their willingness to install is low.

The Digital Turbine report shows that retailers such as Wal-Mart and Amazon continue to dominate shopping app downloads and consumer awareness. This is also similar to previous reports. The Sensor Tower Store Intelligence report in 2020 found that Wal-Mart and Amazon were the most downloaded shopping apps during Black Friday last year. Another report released by Apptopia at the beginning of the year found that Amazon, Wal-Mart and Wish are the three most downloaded shopping apps for U.S. shoppers in 2020.

Research shows that consumers increasingly want to shop through mobile apps, especially young consumers. Especially during the epidemic, more consumers turned to mobile shopping apps to shop. Participation in mobile shopping programs has increased by 40% in 2020. A Brightpearl report this fall found that Gen Z plans to shop during the holiday through multiple mobile and social media channels, including Facebook, retailer’s mobile apps, WhatsApp, Instagram and YouTube.

As shoppers rely more on mobile apps during the epidemic, retailers have been adding new features to simplify the mobile shopping experience. In early October, Macy’s updated its app design and navigation and launched live shopping. In the same month, Target added the “multiple purchases, one delivery” function and a new service that supports same-day delivery services.
